CEO Mentoring Program – Mentor Bio: Gordon Stone
“Who’s who in the ABDI CEO Mentoring Program”
As part of this week’s “Who’s who in the ABDI CEO Mentoring Program”, we wanted you to get to know a few of the mentors and presenters who will be involved in the next Agribusiness CEO Mentoring Program – commencing on the 28-29 November in Brisbane.
So let’s get started with Gordon Stone – ABDI Director, and Principal Program Mentor.
With a bad habit of playing “funeral music” as thinking and writing music at workshops (or so our last Mentoring Group told him in no uncertain terms in reference to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D”), Gordon is immensely passionate about supporting people (and businesses) through their personal and professional development journeys.
Being a long-term small business owner himself, he has seen first-hand how difficult it can be, as business owners struggle with not only having to constantly learn new skills in new areas, but also struggle with their own self-doubt about whether they have what it takes to create a successful business – or take their business to another level.
Gordon is a firm believer that “Clarity Leads to Power”. He commands a logical, measured and strategic approach to building businesses and often says “Let’s go back to first principles” (one of his favourite sayings) – to be sure that business owners are crystal clear on Why they are doing … What they are doing!

Another passion of his is embarrassing his sons at any opportunity. Now that the boys have all moved away from home, this is no longer such an issue – except for the middle son Dave, who came back to work in ABDI with Gordon (and who may be writing this). As soon as the grandkids are old enough, it’s their turn to take the baton.
Gordon has over 30 years’ experience in the Australian agricultural sector, with experience across the meat, livestock, horticulture, grains and cotton (and some dairy and new crops) sectors in Australia, Asia and the USA.
He is a master facilitator, and has strong skills in strategy and business management, and has been involved in business training and development for the last 15 years. He is a Board Member of the Global Alliance of Independent Agricultural Consultants.
Where can you catch Gordon?
